Trout Fishing Mecca - Trout Unlimited and the Texas Parks and Wildlife stock rainbow and brown trout for recreational fishing. Experience the best fly fishing from November to May when the water clarity is prime and the fish are stocked at regular intervals. At Osprey Haus, you have direct access to hundreds of yards of wade fishing rapids, rock eddies, gravel slopes, and deep troughs.

Austin, and San Antonio are both @ an hours drive away depending on traffic. Please see our welcome kit for a couple of suggested routes if you're looking for something spontaneous.
Local Nightlife: Shooting Stars, Moonlight, and animal sounds, fill the night air off the back deck, or even a brisk late night skinny dip in the river add to noise of all the critters doing what critters do. Don't forget to look up, the stars at night are indeed big and bright. If that's too quiet catch the local music venues.
Fire Pit: Because of the rising cost, we do not provide charcoal briquettes or firewood for our pits, nor can we guarantee gas in the gas grill. There may be some left by previous renters, but we simply cannot control or provide this inventory. If you want to have a long night of fire please prepare accordingly. Wood bundles can be purchased at the Lowe's but if you have one of those tailgate racks we suggest you use it to bring what you need. Gas grill tanks can be taken into Sattler for exchange at usual and customary charges (Lowes, Ace Mart, Valero).
Water Activities
The Osprey Haus is set up for families and not fraternities. Quiet Please!
The Guadalupe River and Canyon Lake waters offer many options for those looking to cool their heels or catch some fish. Feel free to bring your own river rafts or kayaks, or jet skis and watercraft for Canyon Lake, but there are many rental options available in close proximity to this property. Due to liability issues we cannot offer up our own canoes or kayaks for recreational use and you should seek out rentals if you do not have your own.
Any one of the outfitters below rent tubes, rafts, jet skis, or boats. They can also provide shuttle pick-up and delivery for your float trips on the river. Your best bet is to use Little Ponderosa Outfitters because they are closest to Osprey Haus and can pick-up at the house.
Half a mile down the road! They will rent and shuttle you however far up-river you want to go.
The biggest and busiest - why bother!...but there you have it. A float down from here will be 3-4 hours depending on river flow.

Fly Fishing Guides and Tackle
Osprey Haus is located in the middle of the best trout fishing section of the river. Bring your kit!
Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited
Closest to Osprey Haus but smaller. Will have the essentials and seasonal flies.
Gruene - Gruene Outfitters and Tackle
Larger, busier, more sporting kit, shoes, shirts, hats, and tackle.
Music Scene Abounds
Gurene Hall - All Texas music leads to Gruene Hall. Free live music most weekends from noon to 5 p.m. and great music almost every night of the week. Check the calendar for schedule.
Depending on traffic Gruene Hall may only be a 15-20 minute drive from the Osprey Haus.
River Road Ice House is not too far from Gruene Hall and they normally have similar up-and-comers and touring old stars lined up on weekends.
Whitewater Sports Amphitheater is an outdoor venue for various acts of various generas. They are not as steady so the stage is less attended, but you never know, so check the schedule and you may find a surprise.
Supermarkets & Eateries Nearby
The house is equipped with a full kitchen and BBQ implements but if you're just in a hurry and need to grab a bite locally or forgot to bring something and need to run to the super, Sattler is just a quick 3 miles away from the house.
There is a Lowe's Supermarket, a Valero gas station, and Real Pit BBQ within a stones throw from each other. And the BBQ there is as good as any in the area. There are several other area cafe's around Canyon Lake and White Water Sports if you feel the need to go that route.
Just like most rentals, there is limited in-house availability to napkins or paper towels and you will need to bring that and any special spices you prefer to cook with.
New Branfels restaurants are not that far away but on weekends in the summer the roads are congested and police are everywhere. You want to be careful about late night returns if you have been imbibing.
